Harnessing Wind Power for a Cleaner Maritime
A collaborative programme is underway to accelerate the adoption of wind-assisted propulsion systems (WAPS) in the maritime industry. This initiative brings together technology providers, shipowners, and policymakers to address technical challenges, share knowledge, and create a supportive ecosystem for wind propulsion solutions. The programme focuses on developing five key pillars: sail design, sail-vessel interaction, operational control, voyage optimisation, and performance intelligence.
Development Framework For The Wind-assisted Propulsion Systems Programme
The programme leverages existing platforms and develops new tools to advance WAPS, maximising fuel efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in maritime shipping. By focusing on these critical areas, the initiative aims to overcome implementation hurdles and standardise performance metrics, ultimately driving the industry toward more sustainable and efficient shipping practices.
